The Pagosa Nordic Club is seeking interested volunteers for cross country ski trail grooming!
Throughout the ski season, the PNC grooms from 5 trail different heads for a total of up to 60km of trails for skate skiing and classic cross-country skiing.
The PNC is a 100% volunteer, non-profit organization, serves as an advocate for cross country skiing in the Pagosa Springs area and works closely with the Pagosa Ranger District. PNC operates on revenue generated from business sponsors, donations, and membership dues from our 450+ members.
Previous grooming experience is not necessary. Volunteers should be physically able to operate snowmobiles. However, snowmobile experience is not necessary. Mechanical inclination is helpful but again, not necessary.
Our Grooming volunteers frequently express that it is very rewarding, enjoyable, they look forward to grooming trails and it is another great way to get outdoors in the winter.
Grooming can be done solo or with a partner depending on experience and preference. We typically like having individuals assigned to specific trail heads to ensure regular grooming occurs to keep trails in good condition for skiers’ enjoyment.
The time commitment for trail grooming can vary depending on snow conditions and trailhead, ranging between 2 hours to 4 hours.
If you would like to learn more or have any interest in volunteering, we are planning a Groomer 101 introduction meeting in the near future. Please, let us know by sending an email to pagosanordic@gmail.com or call James at 970-946-5549. We will be sure to send you an invite to join the meeting!
